One local man is making Red Bluff

You may have noticed the magic "snow that never melts" outside of Golden State Properties on Walnut Street. Having passed it many times, I was standing in line at the Wells Fargo ATM across the street when I couldn't resist reaching for my cell phone. David Caldwell answered my call and explained that he brings the snow from his home in Mineral. Shame on me for not asking sooner! He's been bringing this snow to Red Bluff since December and gets at least 2 calls a week from curious people. One morning, he got a call from a lady who confessed that the snow pile had kept her awake and that she just had to know more about it. David and his coworkers have been enjoying watching the different reactions to the snow. It seems that many just want to touch it to see if it's real. Mechanics from Bob's Tires have enjoyed throwing an occasional snowball. One woman stopped and made a perfect snowball then took careful aim at a passing water truck. When it suddenly pulled over and stopped, she panicked and ran into the office. "I just threw a snowball! Hide me!" Isn't it awful when those kinds of impulses hit us? It turned out that the driver hadn't noticed the snowball after all...but I'm willing to bet that someone was scared enough to reform her ways!

This one was aimed at me!
How long will we have snow in Red Bluff? Judging by photos of the snow around David's house, it looks like we might be in for quite a bit more of the white stuff. David readily admitted that he is just a kid at heart...he first brought his snow to a Christmas party. When he started getting requests for more, it occurred to him that others in Red Bluff might like to enjoy it. So for now, high school students will continue to have snowball fights on their lunch hour and passersby will have something interesting to look at. This is a perfect example of how Red Bluff is unlike any other town. It isn't just the snow that adds to the charm, it's people like the man who shovels the snow into the back of his truck, knowing that his efforts make many of us smile.
