I Like Wal*Mart!
When it comes to Wal-Mart, what's not to like?
Oh yes, a while back there was some woman who wrote a nasty letter to the
Redding Record Searchlight regarding the Supercenter.  (As you can imagine, there
was quite a backlash from other readers!)  I don't feel that way.  I like Wal-mart.  I
like the SuperCenter; we call it "Stuffmart" because it's got a lot of stuff.

Anyway, this week I'll tell you
why I like Wal-mart.

Some of the people who work there are sooo friendly.  There's always someone
waiting by the front of the store to give me a happy-face sticker.
No other store gives you a sticker.  See's Candy gives you candy when you walk
through the door and you can't top that, but a sticker comes pretty close.

I like Wal-mart because of the Great Value product line.  Every product is superb
and although we had a mishap last week with two cans of their Spam-like luncheon
meat, the matter was quickly resolved.  Describing the unfortunate incident,
I wrote this letter to Wal-mart:
Dear Sirs,

Thank you for manufacturing "Great Value
Canned Luncheon Meat," a great alternative to
the high cost of Spam.
I wanted to try  this product but after I bought it,
I had  difficulty opening the can.  Pulling up on
the tab was the easy part.  The problem lies in
pulling the top off.  I became extremely
frustrated when I was unable to open the can
enough to get the meat inside.
I could smell it and it made my mouth water, but
I was unable to pull the top off and had to throw
the can full of meat away.  What a waste!  I feel
so guilty wasting good food like this.  I wonder
if anyone else has had this kind of experience
with this luncheon meat.  The can says "Easy to
Open" but this is not true.  I was so sad.

I like all of the Great Value products and hope
you continue to create low cost alternatives for
working class people such as myself.

Sincerely,
A "Great Value" Customer
Yes, before I get any emails, it really happened that the lid would not
easily come off from either can.
My husband broke out into a sweat, fighting with the first can.
(He really likes canned luncheon meat.)
He said, "If I was an old woman, I wouldn't be having lunch today."

My kids were crying because they were so hungry.  They closely examined the
small hole the tab had punctured in the top of the can.  They could see the meat,
they could smell the meat, but they couldn't eat the meat.  They were fearful they
might never taste the delicacies inside, yet they cheered on their dad in his fight to
open the resistant can.  Laying on the kitchen floor, depressed and his energy
depleted, he told the kids that they might have to settle for drinking the liquid that
surrounded the meat.  "You can't drink that, it's not a liquid," said my daughter, "it's
doesn't come out of the hole when you turn the can upside down."
Yes, she had a point, but if it wasn't a liquid, what was it?
"It's meat jello," my husband said.  "It's good for colds, I think."

I thought the can might be a kind of physical fitness test.  Maybe these lids
prevent those with weak and unhealthy hearts from eating the product.  These
people probably have high cholesterol and shouldn't touch the stuff.  I guess this
is me.  The second can was tossed due to my failure to pass the fitness test.  My
kids also failed, being unable to open the can.  Wow!  It was really hard to admit
that, but now that it's out, I feel so free!

I am grateful to the Great Value Company for this free test which otherwise might
have cost a great deal of money.  This is just another way that Walmart is saving
us money while caring about the community.  Thank you, Walmart and Great
Value!  The kids and I have  decided to change our eating habits so we can pass
this fitness challenge the next time we purchase canned luncheon meat.
Time to make a change!  I'll let you know how we do.
I was most impressed with the pleasant and
speedy response I received!
Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.  We
are sorry to hear of your concern regarding our
GV Luncheon Meat.  The can was too hard to
open.

The Date Code information found on the
product is important.  This information is usually
followed by the wording "best by" or "sell by"
and is located on the packaging of the product.
With this information, it allows us to work with
the supplier to identify the date and place
where the product was processed.  We
apologize for any inconvenience this has
caused, but with your help, we hope to
continually improve quality and customer
service.

Because we do not manufacture this product
ourselves, we are going to forward a copy of
your comments to our supplier and we have
asked the supplier to respond to your concern
within one week after receiving this letter.

We hope you will give our Walmart store brand
Great Value product another opportunity.  We
have developed a very comprehensive line of

About the music...
I chose it because there's a man who occasionally plays the organ out
in front of the Red Bluff store and this music sounds like his.
