My summer keeps on getting better!

I have just one university class right now and have enjoyed this week off from work.
I have two more weeks to relax before heading back, but I should mention that I have a job
that is so rewarding that I would do for free. I love my job and the people I work with.
However, it is wonderful to be home!

The books I need for my current class are classics that I can borrow from the Tehama
County Library. (Last week, I had to read
Robinson Crusoe. I remember when my seventh
grade teacher read this to the class. I fought to stay awake! Daniel Defoe's book is only
slightly more interesting when read for the purpose of evaluating how this novel, a new
writing form, was accepted by those who lived with concerns of social standing...blah blah
blah...I confess that I was
still fighting to stay awake! When I was in seventh grade, I would
wonder,
"When will this infernal book end???" Being stuck on an island for 28 years isn't
exactly exciting content for a 12 year old.  I remember my heart leaping with joy when my
teacher read that Crusoe's ink was beginning to run out and he would have to use it more
sparingly. Surely
now he would quit rambling about the month, the weather, and the
equinox. Surely
now, this book would come to a blessed end!
And yet, Crusoe, ever resourceful, somehow managed to make the ink last and last, for my
teacher kept reading and reading...I did not begrudge Crusoe too much for all this writing,
for what else is one to do while waiting for corn to grow? Were it not for Crusoe's brief
encounters with cannibals, I might have died. Wow! I feel better for having vented all this
resentment! Now, the negativity is
yours to deal with...I like how this works =)

Speaking of waiting for corn to grow...

Joe has put in a huge garden. Not content with his usual 30 tomato plants,
he has expanded his efforts this year. Here are some photos:
Everyone asks what we will do with it all. Joe makes quarts and quarts of stewed tomato
and our family likes lettuce and tomato sandwiches. With homegrown tomatoes, who needs
bacon? Salads are so much better in the summertime...fresh peppers, tomatoes, and onion.

Other summer happenings...

When I was at the library, I noticed the theme for this year's summer reading program.
If your kids are bored, take them to the Tehama County Library on Wednesdays
for a story and a craft! This year, the library is presenting a world travel theme.
What a great way to teach children that books can take you anywhere!
I have taken my kids to these fun story sessions before and they are always very nicely done.
Very fun, and I don't think that Robinson Crusoe is on the reading list, either.
watermelons, cantaloupes...
zuchini, squash...
tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers...

Daisy's Summer fun...

This week, Daisy has been enjoying vacation Bible school at First Church of God.
Several local churches came together to make the week a success.
Daisy l

To everyone who helped with this amazing week of fun,
