So, I was at the club last week, patting myself on the back
for finishing the ab machine, when I looked out the window
and saw a man picking up a concrete rock...
a
big concrete rock.  I had some questions!

Meet Jeff Crow, strongman competitor.
At these strongman competitions, you'll see anything from
rock lifting to dragging an RV or a 200 lb sled.
Jeff says that although it looks impressive to move
a diesel truck or an RV, these have wheels and are
actually pretty easy compared to the sled.
Other events include flipping tires like the one seen
below and carrying heavy sandbags that
weigh 200 to 300 pounds in each hand.
That concrete rock shown in the picture weighs 280
pounds!
Yeah, you think you're strong,
but can you do
this?
Jeff warns that this is the worst way to lift something and that he would never
recommend it to anyone.  This kind of awkward lifting is not calculated and safe
like the equipment you'll find in a gym, but that's why it's an
event.
So, what's the worst thing about this kind of workout?
Definitely, it's caring for the callouses on the hands...ouch!

It's always nice to meet another Red Bluff person.
If you know someone who should be interviewed,
contact me.

Have a great vacation next week!

Not everyone gets a vacation next week, I know.
I happen to have one and my husband doesn't. It really hurts that he's not very
sympathetic to the problems this vacation creates.
For instance, on my first day off, I usually say something like,
"Honey, I'm worried because I only have eight more days off."
He gets this look on his face that's hard to explain.
"The next week is gonna fly and I don't know if I'm gonna get too much rest.
You know, it's a problem that Oprah and Dr. Phil are on during the time
I want to sleep and I don't want to miss them.
Should I take a nap before or after watching t.v.?"
This is my problem for next week, it's a real one, and he doesn't give his input.
He just doesn't engage.  Gosh, try to involve someone in decision-making...
I wonder how many of you have next week off...If you have to work, be grateful.
If you have a vacation, be sure to remind your friends that these
can create more trouble than they're worth.
Call them at work and say things like,
"I'm sooo bored!  I have sooo much free time on my hands!"
or "I just took
another nap."
Most people will be thankful to you for doing this.
My husband is the exception.
Last Saturday, at a power-lifting
meet in Chico, Jeff bench-pressed
440 pounds, winning 2nd place.
He placed first in the dead lift,
lifting 585 pounds.
