How long can you hold a grudge? One long-standing grudge ended in our home on Sunday when I made a meatloaf. The story of this grudge started sixteen years ago... I had decided to make meatloaf for my husband, Joe. Newly married, it was one of the first meals I had made. As I served the meatloaf, I noticed that it looked different than my mom's, even though I had used her recipe. "It's the same consistency as a can of Skippy dog food," I thought, sliding my fork through it. When I brought the first bite to my mouth, I realized that it also smelled like a can of Skippy dog food. Just then, Joe took his first bite. "I'm full!" he announced around a mouthful of meat. What a mistake! Finally, after 16 years, I decided that it was time to make my famous Skippy Meatloaf again. This time, Joe was most grateful for it, not wanting to start another problem for himself. This reminds me of another story from the early days of our marriage... I came home from work and entered the kitchen, but smelled something odd. "I smell something, what is it?" I asked. "Guess!" He answered with a grin. "I don't know!" I replied, slightly irritated that he was so happy when I was smelling something sooo rank. "Check your shoes. Did you step in something?" "No. I didn't step in anything. That smell happens to be the Parmesan Cheese that's on the casserole I'm baking...but don't worry, you don't have to eat my dog crap casserole!" An even bigger mistake! These two stories are the stuff grudges are made of. Enough family history! On Wednesday I met someone who can cook. Her name is Holly Coom and she is the owner of a new Red Bluff restaurant, The Bunkhouse. The Bunkhouse will be serving home-cooked meals such as chili, BBQ ribs, tri-tip, chicken, and a salad bar. Breakfast will include biscuits and gravy, rolls, and croissants. I can't cook, but I'm glad there's a local place where deprived husbands like mine can get meals like their mom used to make.
Holly hopes to have the restaurant open on February 1st. I do hope this nice family is very successful in their business. Asking about the colors on the outside, I was assured that the pink is only a primer. The restaurant will have an Americana decor...and I had to ask if any bright orange colors were being planned to match the endearing paint we have on historic Main Street. Her answer? "We don't do orange!" Ahhh! *breathes a sigh of relief*

Idol Thoughts... This gal and her mom were two of the most unusual people I've ever seen... I confess to wanting to read the novella.
Another rejection. In his defense, he did hit some pretty high notes.... hit them and left them for dead.
Sean Michel has an awesome voice. I hope he wins and that he keeps the look... He's pretty original.
Some people say they don't watch American Idol. I think they're lying. I don't watch much television, but this is a show not to be missed! I'm really into it, especially the auditions. I'll probably bring the subject up again later... Have a nice week!
