Last week, I saw something that
filled me with nostalgia...
The Inchworm!
I know I've already talked about the
70's before, but they were such
good years!  It was in the 70's that
we had such toys as The Inchworm.
If you bounced up and down, it
moved forward slowly...
about the speed of a worm!
It was also in the 70's that I
acquired my first home, built
for me by my grandfather.
It was here that I honed my cooking
skills, making mud pies,
mixing crackers with water...
Believe it or not, my friend Chuck
ate bowl after bowl of the cracker
water casserole and actually took a
bite of the mud pie, just for me!
That was when I first realized that
although I might never be a culinary
master, I
was highly skilled in the art
of persuasion.
My cat Sugar Plum is in the window...the white dog is Popcorn and the dog I'm holding was named Hud...not sure where she got the name.
Another favorite 70s toy...
This house didn't have a mortgage payment or a PG&E bill.
My current house is slightly larger and more expensive.  So many bills!
I wonder if someday Greewaste will require playhouses to have dumpsters...
I read a letter to the Daily News about a woman who recycled practically everything and didn't
want a dumpster.  This was really interesting to me.  She said that the Saturday trip to the
dump was her special time with the kids.  I remember when we had to go to the dump.
I hated it!  Those were the days of a different kind of recycling, meaning that while we were
dumping our shhtuff, the people in the pickup next to us would yell over, "What do ya got?"
and then sometimes dig through our garbage as it was falling out the back of the truck.

Currently, we are in the process of fixing up our kitchen.
We are trying to find the best prices possible and trying to use all local materials.
So far, we have cupboards and cabinets purchased from a yard sale.
What a find!  Brand new, for $200.
We've also purchased floor tile from Carpet One, here in Red Bluff, for a great price.
They've recently moved from the Antelope Area over to North Main, next to McMahon's.
Next, I'm looking for some countertop...not really sure of what I want.
We are also looking for such things as a refrigerator, an oven hood, new windows.
Let me know where the local deals are!  Give me your advice on paint color, etc.
I'll keep you updated on our project with some pictures and I'll also do a little
advertising for local places that offer the best prices and quality.

My Wish List:
I'll tell you what I really want...a spa.
Now we do have a spa that was given to us for free, but it's a nightmare.
A friend called us and they had a friend who wanted to give away a spa.
We took the bait, saving the previous owner the cost of dumping the mess.
This is the kind of problem I don't need...looking at a spa and wishing it worked.
Oh, I know!  I have a great idea!  Why don't we just get rid of it?
Maybe haul it off with our van that doesn't run?
 Yes, it broke down again!
I feel so pathetic sometimes...
How I wish we were in the 70's again!

I think I'm going to start another children's book.  Here's what I have so far:

"Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in my Playhouse."

1. The Inchworm saves a lot on gas and it never breaks down.

2. Linoleum seams aren't a problem on a wood floor.

3. You don't have a car now, and later, you won't have a car that runs.

4. Sometimes, life will throw you an unexpected bill and you'll be broke.
If you have crackers and water, you'll never go hungry.

5. Cracker Water Casserole is very dry and can stick to the roof of your mouth.
(That what Chuck says!)  Have some water handy.

6. If a stranger wants to give you a gift, don't take it, even if it's a free spa.

7. No one will ever rave about your casseroles.

Have a great week!

Now, I'd like to explain what it's like to have
fifteen year old linoleum in your kitchen.
Many of you already know what I'm going to
say.  The rest of you are experiencing some
kind of morbid anticipation at finding out how
the other half of Red Bluff lives.
My linoleum has a seam in the area where
there is the highest traffic.  I noticed a few
months ago that it was starting to curl up, and
even more so after it was mopped.
Now, we are all careful of the seam,
not to get it wet or drag our feet over it.
This is a
huge pain in the butt.
17.5 inch square
Color is chocolate cherry...mmm...
Coming unglued at the seam...
Soon...
Before...
