I began to develop an idea.
You know, stores are not the only places with furniture.
Many Red Bluff people have chairs and such in their driveways.
I'm not sure of the reason why.  I don't think we have too many amnesty days
where Greewaste will pick them up.
Of course, maybe this furniture is not intended for the dump at all.
Maybe some people like to air their furniture.
They put it outside...it catches your interest and you wonder...
Why is it out here?  What's the intent?
Maybe they want someone to take it home, but then again, maybe not.
Perhaps they want to catch you in the act of stealing their crap off the side of
the street.  Think conspiracy here.
Be wary of that chair that sits alone in the street.
There's an element of danger attached to it.
Someone may be watching you haul it off.

If I leave something outside, I
want it to disappear.
Once, we had a yard sale where we tried to sell a desk the size of a
ping-pong table.  I swear it weighed 300 pounds.
No one bought it, we couldn't even give it away.
My husband was annoyed.  "What are we going to do with it now?"
"Leave it outside," I answered.  "Someone will pick it up."
"No one wants it," he disagreed.  "No one bought it."
"Trust me," I answered, "someone will steal it for the thrill of it.
It's more fun for them if they think they're stealing it."
Sure enough, the next morning, it was gone.

Back to my idea...if it
is your intention to get rid of furniture,
use the sign method.
It makes your stuff more desirable.
Here's what this idea would look like in your driveway...
These photos are from all over town...
How well do you withstand temptation?
Could you get through this maze of
signs without buying something?
It was amazing how each one was
different, each hitting the would-be
customer at a different angle,
each hoping to lure you in.
Maneuvering my car through the
parking lot, I felt like a fish looking at
different kinds of bait.

I began to think, "Maybe I really
do need
something..."  Wow!  I was hooked!
Good thing the store was closed or else
I might have followed the signs into
a place where almost anyone on earth
is promised a recliner.  The signs were a
great attention-grabber.  I thought about
furniture for the rest of the day.

I began to think that this store was onto
something really big here.
I wondered how else we could use the
sign idea to better the town
of Red Bluff...
I saw the signs...
People need to feel like they are
getting the better end of the deal.
Act like you don't want to part
with your chair.
When you see someone cart it
off, run to the window and shake
your fist.  Yell something like,
"Hey, Buddy, bring that back!"

From now on, I'm using
psychology when it comes to
ridding myself of fine furniture.

I hope this idea is useful to you.
If not, I'll refund your money in 90
days...or I can give you a great
deal on a desk...
