Sometimes, with the excitement of
living in a big city such as Red Bluff,
there is a tendency to overlook the
smaller, surrounding communities.
This week, we salute Dairyville
and its population of 160.

Hello, Dairyville!
Welcome to Dairyville!

Red Bluff has a lot of personality,
but so does its neighbor, Dairyville.

Who lives there?
Some of the most regular people
you'd ever want to meet.
Dairyville sponsors an annual
Prune Festival, although you'll find
more than just prunes at this event.
Local artisans display their wares
and there's a wide variety of locally
grown produce.
Recently, we took our van to Dave Pierce get the AC serviced.  We really like this
friendly mechanic.  I found the display in front of his shop fascinating...

My son thought that this headless driver deserved a song, so we wrote one...mmm mmm mmm....
I don't know about you, but I like having
something interesting to look at...
I get bored easily.  Beautiful trees and
flowers are not enough for me.  I need
more.  Dave has a well-planned setting
outside his shop, and the vintage cars are
a great choice for his business.
However, any unintentional displays
you may have in front of your house will
also entertain me.  Some people have lots
of shhhtuff in front of their homes,
providing a welcome relief from the
monotonous colors from well-meaning,
yet unimaginative gardeners.

These cars proved to be an inspiration to my son.

headless driver.

I wish that everyone would put more time and
creativity in their front yards.  Anyone can
have a perfectly manicured lawn, but some
dare to defy convention by
creating masterpieces of architectural
bewilderment.  Being an avid observer of
these, I can give a few pointers to those who
aren't sure where to begin.
Think of...
eclectic collections in bright colors,
anything unusable,
anything with a missing leg,
hubcaps,
treadmills, and
mattresses, mattresses, mattresses!
Place your stuff around the
property in groupings or give it a
more random, strewn look.
If you build it, they will come...
or just look.

Think of the smug satisfaction you
will feel when people knock
on your door and ask if you're
having a yard sale.
You can just smirk at them and say,
"No, I'm keeping it all for myself."
Thank you Dairyville, for the enjoyable drive.

I am sorry to say that I missed the Redneck
Olympics.  I was really looking forward to going.
How did our local people do at the games?
Let me know...

I plan to attend the
Red Bluff Art and Wine Festival this Saturday,
4-7PM on Washington Street.
Although it can't compete with a prune festival,
it's still good entertainment.

Have a nice weekend!
