"The Countryside Counselor"
More good news to report...a new therapy practice has opened in Red Bluff. I
was the grateful recipient of this insightful therapist's wisdom when I fortuitously
saw his couch by the side of a country road.
Have a seat on the couch

When I spotted it, I immediately pulled to the side of the road.  Excited about
what this meant for all Red Bluff residents, I sat on the couch and waited for the
therapist to arrive...I waited...and waited.  At first, I wondered, "
Where is he?
Why doesn't he show up?  Is he worried he won't get paid?  I'm sure my
insurance covers therapeutic counseling
."
After 25 minutes of sitting in the hot sun, I began to move past these smaller
issues and began asking the bigger questions..."
Is he staying away because
I'm not good enough?
" and finally, "Is there something wrong with who I am?"
As I went through the process of self-disclosure, my self-concept began
changing radically.  In a flash of insight, I realized that I had always been a high
self-monitor, overly concerned with what others might be thinking of me.  Sitting
on his couch, I was flooded with self-awareness.  By the end of the hour, I had
reached the stage of self-actualization, with all the necessary skills to achieve
my full potential in life.  I fully understood the importance of addressing all of
these underlying conflicts and then I realized...
This is exactly the kind of insight
he had wanted me to gain
....This guy is good!

Our community is well-served by this empathetic therapist.  At the end of my
session, I left with the feeling of being cared-for and the secure knowledge that
his couch was always open to me.  Anyone else having benefited from his
creative counseling approach
, please let us know!  The person who shares
the most moving or interesting  story will receive this
magnetic Sigmund Freud
finger-puppet
(see below).  How nice...to have all the wisdom of Freud at your

Tell me about your mother
                                         to N.H.!
Here is N.H.'s experience on the couch...

This new Red Bluff  therapist has achieved the
recognition he so richly deserved thanks to
your new web site.
I visited him myself earlier this year. Although it was
raining on that day, I found it to be quite invigorating.
There was no appointment necessary
and no lengthy forms to fill out.
However, Red Bluff has lost another great talent, I'm
afraid.  Alas, he too has pulled up stakes and moved on.
Oh, when will other wealthier and more fortunate cities
quit soliciting our finest with fame and fortune?
                                     N.H.

Yes, the couch is gone!  I didn't know our therapist had
actually
left town!  I thought that he had moved his
couch so I wouldn't become overly dependent on him.

Another writing I liked...

I had a deep down fear of insanity. It created anxiety;
fear of the future; inward peering constantly. Not
knowing what I would do, I feared the worst ... just when
would it overtake me?

Then I discovered this little website and found that I am
perfectly normal ... if this website reflects perfectly
normal.

What joy! What a revelation! Now I can go on.... and on
and on ..
                                 Anne

I'm happy to know that this site is freeing people up.  It
feels good to be doing a community service.  Our
therapist has left a big empty place in our hearts (the
size and shape of a couch).  We'll do our best to fill it.

Little known fact: The term
psychotherapist is unregulated...so
maybe the one you're seeing has a
degree, but then again, maybe he
or she has no degree at all.  Look
around you carefully...any one of
the people you see could be open
for business tomorrow...aahhh!
Scary, indeed!
