The best things in life...aren't things.

As Christmas nears, I think about all of the gifts we are giving to others and what we
already have. It's time to clear out some of the old toys and make room for the new.
It's funny to see how differently my kids view Christmas gifts.
A week ago, Linda Jo gave me a hug and told me that she didn't need or even
want anything...that she already had everything she could want.
It warmed my heart. Jonah said that all he wants are Legos.
These are wonderful toys unless you step on one in your bare feet.
Still, this is a better choice than a video game. So, shopping this year will be a pleasure.
Daisy is the thrifty one in our family. The girl still has gift cards from
last Christmas.
I don't want to call her a miser; she just doesn't spend money easily (unless it's for gum).
She did buy some soft pajamas for herself one time but I've never seen her make a really
big purchase. She's fun to shop for because she loves everything even though she
would never buy it for herself.

A Christmas Memory...
Last Christmas, we had some anxious moments when Joe lost his wallet.
We looked everywhere! He thought he may have left it at work or maybe at a store.
We turned couch cushions over, looked under the couch, all over his truck...everywhere!
This went on for more than a week but since there hadn't been any activity with his ATM
or credit cards, he was reluctant to cancel them. "It has to be around here somewhere!"
he kept saying. He offered a five dollar reward to whoever found it and then upped it to
$10.00. This put Linda Jo and Jonah into high gear as they searched everywhere again.
On Christmas Day, Joe opened his present from Daisy.
It was his wallet!
His mouth dropped open as Daisy gave him a very serious look.
"I wanted to give you something you could really use," she explained.
The pieces started to come together...
so that's why she hadn't been searching as hard as
the rest of us!
It must have been very hard for her to keep this secret while we searched
but all the concern over the lost wallet only reinforced that she had chosen
just the right gift for him.
Daisy...dancing in her elf shoes
How an elf says, I love you!
T shirt says, It's all fun and games until Santa finds out!
This week was the kickoff for the Holiday Classic at Red Bluff High School.
Linda Jo really threw herself into the dress-up days, especially "holiday character" day
when she became an elf and gave away candy canes to everyone.
Daisy watched her put the costume together and managed to create a pair of elf shoes
from the leftovers she collected...very resourceful!

It was fun watching my kids get excited over participating in the "Adopt an Angel"
program. When you do for others, be sure to include your kids.
Jonah had the name of a boy his age and when he looked at the tag,
he said that he felt bad that the boy's parent(s) had requested toiletries and a towel
for his Christmas gift. "I wouldn't like to get soap for Christmas," he said honestly.
"Can I give him a toy, too? Maybe we can give him one you were going to give to me."

These words are the best gift a mother can get.

Have a Merry Christmas!
