What do you do when you're at a stoplight?
I look around...at other people, at their bumper stickers, and at our town.
If you ever see a woman taking pictures at a stoplight (my camera is always with me) then
you're probably looking at me.  I love the historic buildings in Red Bluff.  One thing I have
noticed is that one of our buildings doesn't ever close its windows, even when it rains.
I don't think this building is owned by the businesses on the lower floor.
They might not even have access to the second floor and so are not responsible for this.
I've wondered about it, at first deciding that it wasn't really my business.
(But has that ever stopped me before???)
Anyway, earlier this week, while I was stopped at the light, I looked up
and saw a bird fly in the window!
At first, I was irked.  My first thought was that the birds could be ruining the inside of the
building.  I wondered how many were in there.
I was extremely irritated...but then I began to realize that I was being highly
intolerant.  A theory began to develop in my mind: that these birds also have
some historical value, and perhaps more than the building I was worrying
about.  These birds are probably of a very pure bloodline.
I wonder...how long is a bird generation?
I am glad that our city had the forethought and sensitivity to create this bird
sanctuary on Main Street.
With the opening of this facility, we can be assured of the comfort of our feathered
friends and of future years of bird-watching enjoyment.
The city is really killing two birds with one stone.
Thank you, to all those who made this possible.
We know that a project of this magnitude doesn't happen overnight
or without a lot of planning.
We are grateful.
