The Big Fat Taco.
If you can't view it, click here to watch it on YouTube As I said, fat is a negative word. Really, the only acceptable place to use the word is when ordering a Big Fat Meal...maybe that's why I felt the need to say fat so many times. Thanks to the friends who helped me think of products. If you think of any, send me your ideas. Have a great weekend! Sign the guestbook Back to the Home Page at www.redbluffismytown.com

When I first drove by the sign you see above, I was taken aback. Fat? Who on earth would use that word to try to sell a meal? Del Taco, that's who. My first thought was, "There's something that I'll never order." Fat is a pretty negative word to be throwing around, and you expect it to draw in a crowd? On the other hand, it does make the product more memorable. I thought about big fat tacos for a long time after seeing it, and now I'm even writing about them. Maybe we should try this negative word strategy for other things we want to market. Here are some ideas: "Oozing Zit Medication" "Black Cavity Toothpaste" "Lazy Butt Chairs" "Oops! I threw up a little bit in my mouth Indigestion Medicine." "Liver Pickling Beer" "Comb-over Hair Growth Shampoo" "Wicked Witch Wart Removal Cream" "I-Can't-Sit-Down Hemorrhoid Shrinker" "Dry, Choking, Hacking Cough Syrup" "Corn Comfort Running Shoes" "The I-Have-a-Box-of-Poop-in-My-House Kitty Litter" I don't need to go on, although trust me, I could. You get the idea. I guess that this is the wave of things to come. We used to have advertisements that had nothing to do with the product. Now, advertisements will subtly hint at why we shouldn't buy them.

Last week, I told you that the kids and I went to Round Table Pizza with friends and then trick or treating. Joe stayed home to answer the door...huge disappointment to him that no one came. However, the kids were ecstatic to have all that candy left over. Anyway, on the way home, Joe called me and said he wanted me to pick something up for him. He wouldn't tell me what he wanted, leaving me to pick between Burger King and McDonald's...and then we looked over at Del Taco. The kids persuaded me to order him a big fat taco. The drive-through is entertaining. I turned on my video camera just so you could hear me order a big fat meal. As it turns out, I was completely misunderstood! Not taken seriously!
