One of the toys that Daisy likes to play with is her little iron and ironing board. This imaginative behavior always provokes such sympathy for what she is missing out on. When I was 5 or 6 years old, I had a toy iron that actually plugged in and became warm. It looked something like this:
Such toys are no longer sold in stores, but determined shoppers can still find them on ebay. Here are some other toys that our kids will never see. Maybe you remember some of them. Joe said that his older brother had a little waffle iron like the one below, and that they made mini waffles with it. And we all wanted a toy toaster that would allow us to cook anything that we could cram inside the slots.
I used to have a coffee pot similar to the one below. It pumped water through it and made brewing sounds. I suppose that if I had put ground coffee, rather than dirt, in the brew basket, I might have begun a caffeine addiction much earlier in life. I was always experimenting with various colors of dirt, trying to get the most realistic shade of coffee.
My cousin Lisa had a toy stove similar to the one below. It became hot enough to toast bread.
I pity today's children, and how they are deprived of these toys that could actually do something. Children are much safer now, without such electrical fire hazards. They are much safer now, sitting in car seats until they are 60 pounds They are safer, never knowing the thrill of riding a bicycle without a helmet or riding in the back of a pickup truck. How is it that things have changed to this degree? That in the 1980s, at the high school, it was normal to see guns in the back windows of pickups because guys planned to go hunting right after school? Now, kids can't play with toy guns, and the more liberal leaders of our government would like to take guns away from their parents, as well. While looking around at these seventies toys, I became annoyed at the overly cautious trend that has done away with all the cool toys. I decided that my son needs one of these:

What a socially unacceptable toy! And electrically operated to boot! I think that's why I like it. Air soft guns require plastic BBs and from what I've seen, these are about the only form of ammunition that is readily available in town. Red Bluff stores can't keep regular ammo in because some people are stocking up. Tender-hearted liberals, cover your eyes! Read no further! I have one of those sons who has always made a weapon out of anything that is available. He recently made a gun out of some scrap wood and painted it with these slogans, (for some reason, he was amused by the sight of it): "Live free or die!" and "I love the 2nd Amendment" Hmmm.... I guess that there still are a few good toys around, but you might need to make them yourself. Have a great week and live free... Sign the Guestbook Back to the Homepage at www.redbluffismytown.com
