Growing up in
the 70's
in Red Bluff
I want to draw your attention to
our family's clothing.
It's hard to believe that these
clothes are back in style!
I'm the blond...and the only
tamely dressed one in the
family.  To this day, I don't like
to wear brightly colored clothing.
I own over 12 black shirts.
I would, however,
dress my kids in stuff
like this.

Here I am in my red
checkered pants.
Reading Dr. Seuss...
We had the whole library.  I have
phrases of Dr. Seuss books stuck in
my head that I'll never fully eradicate.
I blurt these out at random,  sometimes
at very convenient times.
For instance, there was that
telemarketer who was told,
"I would not like it in a box,
I would not like it with a fox.
It's 8 PM, you have some gall
I'm on the list you cannot call!"
This is Loppy, my childhood dog.
Loppy didn't like me much.  She had a knack for
eating my favorite colors of crayons.  She was
good though, in that she would go over to the
neighbor's lawn to do her business.
Out neighbor brought this to our attention.
"Loppy's been crapping on my lawn."
To this, my mom said, "How do you know it was
Loppy?  Maybe it was your own dog."  The
neighbor answered, "I
know it was Loppy
because crayons, like corn, don't fully digest."
Eeeww!
Here's my favorite doll, Mrs. Beasley.
Where is she now?
In the attic of my childhood home.
She was left there when our family
moved.  Okay, everyone, check your
attics and return my doll if you have her!
And what was she doing in the attic?
Ahhh!  You caught me!
My bedroom was messy and my mom
boxed the toys I had left on the floor and
stuck them in the attic where they weren't
remembered until it was too late to
retrieve them.
So, one Red Bluff attic has a box of
70's toys inside of it.
What a find!
While I was growing up in Red Bluff, my future husband
was growing up in the nearby town of Gerber.
Check out his checkers!
A 70's Christmas
Hip man, totally hip!
What a cutie!
The blue checkered shirt had a pair of equally checkered
red pants.  This lovely ensemble was given the finishing
touch with something I call "Pat Boone" shoes.
Groovy guy!

I like my sister's coat. I'd love to have one just like it for my daughter.
At this age, no one but my sister could understand me when I talked...she's still pretty good at figuring me out.
Someone put me out of my red-checked misery!
We wore pajamas with built in slippers...blanket sleepers. When we got too tall for them, we just cut the slippers off.
I think these dresses were from Montgomery Wards in Red Bluff.
More checkers...
Now the sad part of this
story is that when I
finally grew out of the
red dress, I had to wear
the green one.
The wrappers were a pain, but the crayons were awesome.
